How InfraSure is organized

A workspace is your organization’s shared environment. Portfolios and groups organize its assets. They do not create separate versions of the same plant.

Workspace, portfolio and group

A workspace belongs to one organization. Its users can see its portfolios and groups. A portfolio refers to assets for a business purpose, such as a fund or a deal. A group selects assets in one portfolio.

Groups can overlap. A solar plant can be in both “Solar” and “Priority review.” You select the members of a group. When you add another solar plant to the portfolio, it does not go into the Solar group automatically.

Three meanings of asset

TermWhat it represents
Catalog AssetA central record of a real plant and its starting assumptions.
Workspace AssetYour workspace’s own copy of that plant. All portfolios in the workspace share it.
Benchmark AssetA standard plant design and value for the grid calculations. It is not a record of a real plant. See Benchmark and asset-specific results.

When you add a catalog plant, InfraSure creates a Workspace Asset and its Baseline from the catalog data at that time. Workspace edits do not change the catalog. Later catalog changes do not change the workspace copy, also for values that nobody edited.

Where a correction applies

If the same plant is in two portfolios in one workspace, both portfolios refer to the same Workspace Asset. When you save a correction to the plant’s actual data, its Baseline changes for both portfolios. A workspace of a different organization has its own copy.

To test a hypothetical deductible or equipment change, use a what-if Scenario. This keeps the hypothetical inputs separate from the shared Baseline. See Baselines and Scenarios.

Visibility and editing permissions

Beta

Workspace roles are in beta. A workspace has two roles: admin and regular member.

ActionAdminRegular member
View workspace portfolios and groupsYesYes
Rename, change membership or delete a portfolio or groupAny in the workspaceOnly those they created
Edit shared asset properties and assumptionsYesYes, including assets in other users’ portfolios

A regular member who can see a portfolio cannot always change its membership. But an edit to a shared asset can change the results in that portfolio.
