Quickstart: your first assessment

Start with one question: which asset should you investigate next, and why?

Before you begin

Open the Sample Portfolio to learn the workflow, or prepare the location, technology and capacity of your own assets. The examples on these pages use a portfolio of 35 assets: 20 solar plants and 15 wind farms, totaling 7,397 MW.

Follow the workflow

  1. Choose a portfolio. Use the portfolio selector. To add plants, open Add Assets and search existing assets or create a prospective asset.
  2. Open Assess. Check which assets are in view and review the headline metrics. These are benchmark estimates.
  3. Check your comparison settings. In Assess Settings, choose a cohort and risk profile. Record those settings when comparing results.
  4. Find an asset to investigate. Sort the results table or use Risk Positioning. Look for high physical losses, an unusual revenue estimate or a red flag.
  5. Open the asset’s Profile. Inspect the drivers behind the metric that caught your attention. Check the result label and any red flags.
  6. Choose a next step. Review a hazard, test loan assumptions, explore a resilience scenario or request detailed modeling.

Interpret what you found

The example is a 240 MW solar plant in Texas. Its benchmark Hazard Loss is 1.71% and its Climate VaR is $34.9M. Hail causes $34.8M of that severe-loss figure. So hail is a clear priority to investigate. But this result does not tell you the terms on which the plant can be insured.

Separate screening from a decision

Review the historical-price revenue estimates, the default policy limits and the assumed loan terms. Do this before you use the results for a financing or insurance decision about an asset.

Check whether you are reading a benchmark or an asset run

A benchmark estimate is available as soon as you add an asset. An asset-specific result needs a separate model run. To request one, use Run Detail Modeling on the asset’s Profile. See model runs and result status.
