The four headline metrics help you understand expected damage, severe losses, revenue potential and overall risk. Each answers a different question.
The four headline metrics
| Metric | What it tells you | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Hazard Loss (%) | Expected annual physical-damage loss as a percentage of asset value. | Lower means less expected damage relative to value. It is not an insurance premium. |
| Climate VaR ($) | Annual physical-damage loss at the 95th percentile. | The model assigns a 5% annual probability of exceeding this loss. Higher means a larger severe-loss estimate; lost revenue is excluded. |
| Risked Revenue ($/MW-year) | Estimated annual energy revenue per MW of capacity, using conservative generation and price assumptions. | Higher means more modeled revenue per MW, not higher profit. It is not a forward price forecast or a revenue percentile. |
| InfraRisk Index (0–100) | A headline risk score across five risk families, using the selected profile. | Hazard-First is the default profile. Lower means lower modeled risk under that profile; the score is not a loss probability. |
Future-climate views currently adjust Hazard Loss only; Climate VaR continues to describe today's climate.

Read a loss estimate
Consider an illustrative asset valued at $100 million:
- A Hazard Loss of 1% means expected annual physical damage of $1 million, averaged across modeled years. Actual losses can vary substantially from year to year.
- A Climate VaR of $10 million means the model estimates a 5% annual probability of physical-damage losses exceeding that amount.
Hazard Loss describes the average annual loss relative to asset value; Climate VaR describes a severe annual loss in dollars.
What your results are based on
Initial results use reference estimates based on location and technology, with dollar losses scaled to asset capacity. Asset-specific results incorporate more of the asset's configuration. See Risk Analysis for how the analysis develops.
Understand the InfraRisk Index profile
Hazard-First is the default profile. Other available profiles are Early-Stage Developer, Late-Stage De-Risked and Revenue-First. Custom lets you set your own weights.
Each profile sets the weight assigned to the five risk families and determines which red-flag rules are active. Changing the profile can change the index score without changing the underlying physical-loss estimates. The selected profile affects the InfraRisk Index. When comparing assets, use the same profile for each asset.
Red flags identify issues found by active rules. A zero count does not mean every possible issue has been checked.

Hazard Loss is capacity-weighted across assets. Total Climate VaR sums individual asset estimates; it does not represent the portfolio's joint P95 loss. Learn how portfolio metrics are calculated.
