Evaluate resilience measures
Use Resilience to identify where modeled measures reduce physical losses. Use Scenarios to investigate a change for one asset.
Compare opportunities across the portfolio
- Open Resilience and compare current Hazard Loss and Total Climate VaR with the “With measures” values.
- Review Resilience opportunity by hazard. Bar width represents current VaR, height represents the share removed, and area represents dollars removed.
- Rank assets by Climate VaR reduction or filter to a hazard.
- Open an asset to explore a scenario.
“With measures” applies every modeled measure. It is a modeled comparison, not a statement that each measure is already installed, feasible or economically justified.
What the measures change
| Hazard / technology | Modeled change |
|---|---|
| Hail / solar | Dynamic hail stow tilts modules before hail arrives. |
| Convective wind / solar | Safe-stow control changes wind loading on trackers. |
| Hurricane / solar | Higher-uplift modules and mounting improve wind resistance. |
| Convective wind / wind | A certified extreme-wind turbine class changes wind resistance. |
| Hurricane / wind | Backup-powered yaw and storm parking change wind loading. |
| Wildfire / solar | Low-fuel defensible space reduces modeled fire intensity. |
| Flood / solar | Raised critical electrical equipment reduces modeled water exposure. |
Build a scenario
- On the asset’s Scenarios tab, select a risk and inspect its map.
- Select a node to see available levers.
- Add one change per lever, up to four changes.
- Click Run model and review measure cost, modeled premium saving and simple payback.
- Save the scenario to compare it with the current-policy baseline used in the analysis.
Interpret the savings
The model compares the same simulated events before and after a measure. This isolates the modeled effect of the measure from differences in the event sample. Where relevant, the method allows for a measure failing to operate.
Simple payback divides measure cost by modeled annual premium saving. A $2M measure with $0.5M of annual savings has a four-year simple payback. This is a simple cost-recovery calculation, not a complete investment appraisal or an insurer’s commitment to reduce premium.
Keep measures in the intended Scenario
A Scenario saves the complete effective inputs for an asset, including the selected measures. Hypothetical edits affect only the selected Scenario. Use Scenarios to compare alternatives. Use Analysis to inspect the detailed results of one alternative without a new run.
In this workflow, you click Save instead of Run model to start the calculation. See model runs and result status.
