Metrics dictionary

This page is the one place where InfraSure metrics are defined. Other pages link here. Each entry links to the page that explains the calculation and its limits.

To learn how to read the four headline metrics, see Read the headline metrics.

Physical-damage metrics

MetricUnitDefinitionPortfolio valueDetails
Hazard Loss%Expected annual physical-damage loss (EAL) divided by asset value.Capacity-weighted. It is not total EAL divided by total asset value.Read the headline metrics
Expected Annual Loss (EAL)$/yearThe mean yearly physical-damage loss across modeled years.Add asset EALs to get total expected dollar loss.Review damage and coverage
Climate VaR$, P95The annual physical-damage loss that is exceeded with 5% probability. It does not include lost revenue.See Total Climate VaR.Read the headline metrics
Total Climate VaR$, P95The sum of individual asset Climate VaR values. It is not the joint P95 loss of the portfolio. Cross-site dependence is not modeled.Read the headline metrics
Probable Maximum Loss (PML)$The modeled loss at the selected return period: 100, 200 or 500 years.Shown for each asset.Review damage and coverage
Expected Total Annual Loss$/yearEAL plus Forced Outage Loss and Recovery Loss.Shown for each asset.Physical-damage model
Loss ratio%EAL divided by asset value. It is not claims divided by premium.Shown for each hazard.Review damage and coverage
Surplus$Policy limit minus PML. It does not show the amount an insurer will pay.Shown for each hazard.Review damage and coverage

Revenue and risk-score metrics

MetricUnitDefinitionPortfolio valueDetails
Risked Revenue$/MW-yearP75 generation × local price × curtailment adjustment × market-value factor.Compare assets under the same assumptions.Revenue model
InfraRisk Index0–100A weighted score across five risk families. A lower score shows lower modeled risk. It is not a loss probability.Compare assets with the same profile and cohort.InfraRisk Index
Benchmark percentile0–100The rank of the asset’s index in the selected cohort. A higher percentile means higher risk than the cohort.Relative to the selected cohort.InfraRisk Index
Red flagsCountIssues found by the active pass-or-fail rules. A count of zero does not mean that every issue was checked.Shown for each asset.InfraRisk Index

Debt metrics

MetricUnitDefinitionDetails
CFADS$Cash flow available for debt service: revenue minus operating costs.Test debt coverage
DSCR×CFADS divided by debt service.Test debt coverage
Min DSCR×The lowest downside-case (P10) DSCR shown in the analysis.Test debt coverage
Covenant StatusCountThe number of heatmap periods below the configured covenant.Test debt coverage
Debt / CFADS×Loan principal divided by one year of modeled CFADS.Test debt coverage
LTV%Loan principal divided by the plant value in the loan settings.Test debt coverage

Resilience metrics

MetricUnitDefinitionDetails
Loss removedPercentage pointsThe modeled reduction in Hazard Loss.Evaluate resilience measures
VaR-95 removed$ or %The modeled reduction in P95 loss.Evaluate resilience measures
Premium saving$/yearThe modeled annual premium reduction from a scenario.Evaluate resilience measures
Simple paybackYearsMeasure cost divided by modeled annual premium saving.Evaluate resilience measures

Percentile direction

The direction of a percentile label depends on the metric. Some labels give the value that is met or exceeded (generation). Others give the value that is exceeded (loss) or fallen below (debt coverage).

LabelInterpretation
P75 generationGeneration meets or exceeds the value with 75% probability.
P95 lossLoss exceeds the value with 5% probability.
P10 DSCRDebt coverage falls below the value with 10% probability.
P50The middle modeled outcome for the metric.
